Narrowing a Studio Brand to Its Expertise
A small studio with strong work and a brand that undersold it. Narrowing the story made it easier to trust.
The studio’s work was stronger than its brand let on. It put a lot of weight on user and customer research with real people, but its website, pitch materials and social presence didn’t yet communicate those values or match the quality of the projects behind them. Its positioning also tried to cover everything at once. Its strongest projects sat at an intersection few studios could claim, but from the outside it was hard to see that, or to trust the studio with work at that level.
I led a rebrand built on a simple idea: a studio known for being very good at a few things earns more trust than one that says it can do everything. We focused the story on the expertise the studio was best at, which gave the brand a more confident voice and a clearer vision, and paired it with a professional look and pitch that matched the caliber of the work. Not long after, the studio won the largest contract in its history, a major e-commerce client from outside its niche who was won over by the new brand and pitch. A strong reputation in one area had earned trust for the rest.
